Overview

There's something about Japan you can't quite explain. You feel it the moment you land. The precision of it, the quiet beauty, the way a city of 14 million people somehow feels calm.

This is TFL's very first Japan women's tour, and we've put everything into making it worth the wait. The route takes you through seven cities and landscapes that feel nothing like each other  from the electric streets of Tokyo to a night sleeping inside a mountain temple in Koyasan, from 20-metre snow corridor walls in the Japanese Alps to the bamboo groves of Kyoto at dawn. No two days look the same.

We designed this as a women-only trip to Japan because we know how differently women experience travel when they're in a group that just gets it. No explaining yourself, no adjusting your pace, no compromising on what you actually want to do. Just a women's travel group in Japan that moves together, explores freely, and looks out for each other.

Japan is also one of the best international trips an Indian woman can take right now. Whether you've been thinking about solo female travel in Japan or prefer the ease and safety of a curated women-only group tour, this journey covers both impulses, you get your own space and moments, with the comfort of a group around you when it matters. It is extraordinarily safe, navigable even without Japanese, and quietly one of the most female-friendly countries in the world.

The food will surprise you. The discipline of daily life will move you. And the kindness of the people will stay with you long after you land back home.

If you've been waiting for a sign to finally do Japan travel as a woman, with the right people and the right route, this is it.

Things to know before journey

Everything you might want to ask before you book this journey.

Do Indian women need a visa to travel to Japan? +

Yes, Indian passport holders need to apply for a Japanese tourist visa in advance through the Japanese Embassy or an authorised visa application centre. TFL will provide a visa support letter once your booking is confirmed. This applies to all participants on our Japan group tours for women. We recommend applying at least 4 to 6 weeks before departure the process is straightforward and our team will guide you through it.

Is Japan safe for women travelling in a group? +

Japan is consistently ranked among the safest destinations in the world for solo female travel and women's group tours alike. Violent crime is rare, public transport is immaculate, and the culture places a high value on respect and personal space. On this women-only Japan tour you will also have a Flapper coach with you throughout the entire journey, so you are never navigating anything alone.

What currency does Japan use and how should I manage money? +

Japan uses the Japanese Yen. Despite being a tech-forward country, Japan is still largely cash-based especially at temples, rural spots, and markets on this route. We recommend carrying a travel card like Niyo or Wise for ATM withdrawals, along with some cash exchanged before or at the airport. Your Flapper coach will advise on the best exchange options at each stop.

What should I pack for this trip? +

Comfortable walking shoes are the most important thing. This itinerary covers a lot of ground on foot, and you will be removing footwear frequently at temples, so slip-ons make life easier. Pack light layers for the alpine section, a small daypack for day trips, and a universal travel adapter. A detailed packing list is sent to all confirmed flappers closer to departure.

Will vegetarian food be available throughout the trip? +

Yes. Japanese cuisine has excellent vegetarian options, and the Shojin Ryori dinner at Koyasan — traditional monk food — is entirely plant-based and one of the most memorable meals on the trip. If you have specific dietary requirements, please mention them at the time of booking so we can plan ahead.

How physically demanding is this trip? +

This is a moderately active Japan trip for women of all fitness levels. Most days involve 3 to 6 kilometres of walking across temples, markets, and nature trails. The alpine route requires comfortable footwear and ease with uneven terrain, but there are no strenuous hikes or fitness prerequisites. The Koyasan mountain access is entirely by train and cable car.

What is the minimum group size for this trip to operate? +

A minimum of 11 confirmed participants is required for this women group tour of Japan to operate. Kindly check flight and train timings with us before making any bookings, as we coordinate transfers around a group window.

What is the weather like in Japan in October? +

October is one of the best times to visit Japan, and one of the reasons we chose it for this journey. The summer heat has lifted, the humidity is gone, and the weather is crisp and comfortable — temperatures sit between 15°C and 22°C in Tokyo and Osaka. You may also catch the very beginning of autumn foliage, with leaves starting to turn in the mountains and temple gardens. The alpine section and Koyasan will be noticeably cooler, so carry a light jacket. Overall it is ideal walking and sightseeing weather throughout the trip.
